I am a visual storyteller, researcher, curator, and designer, and have been an educator for the last 29 years. I co-curated the “Imprinted: Illustrating Race” exhibition at the Norman Rockwell Museum. I am a member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Illustrators NY, Board of Trustees of the Norman Rockwell Museum, International Association of Illustration Academics, and the 2025 Society of Illustrators’ Distinguished Educator of the Arts. My communication medium is oils; the visual work is about the human condition, and my research is about illustration and race. I go big with most things I do!
This presentation introduces The Journal of Illustration to prospective readers and contributors. The journal is an academic publication that shares scholarly articles on illustration practice. Alongside the Illustration Research network, it provides an international platform for those who illustrate, teach, or study illustration. Here, users explore a range of cultural, political, philosophical, historical, and contemporary issues related to illustration. The platform aims to ground and elevate understanding, feed curiosity, and inspire new thinking about what illustration is or does.
