Kohana Wilson is a Japanese-English animator, director, and educator based in Brooklyn. They are an adjunct professor in the Illustration department at the Parsons School of Design, where they teach drawing and animation classes. Their film 'edith and the tall child' won Slamdance Festival's Grand Jury Prize for Animated Shorts, and has been screened internationally.
Kohana’s work is born from a deep love of the handmade, working mostly with paper and pencil animation. In this talk, they will explore the gifts of hand-drawn animation: its lessons in patience and forgiveness, its inherent lawlessness, and the importance of valuing process.
